PROPOSED IRS Reporting Legislation

Read more about how this reporting could affect you.

Take Action and say "Thank You."

Bank of Travelers Rest keeps a neutral position on matters pertaining to politics. But as policy makers in Washington work to increase banks’ required reporting, they are also making a decision that could affect our customers and communities. The proposal before both Houses of Congress would require banks to send detailed reports to the IRS regarding customers’ transactions on accounts that exceed $600.

As a community bank, we not only think that’s creating more useless work for regulators and banks, we also believe it to be an invasion of your privacy. Additionally, information exchanged between banks and the IRS would provide potential exposure for data to be breached and your personal information hacked.

Congressmen representing the Bank of Travelers Rest service areas are on record as opposing this bill. We would like to thank them, publicly, for looking out for us and our customers. We also encourage you to contact your Senator and/or Representative to thank them for their position to protect your banking privacy.  To help in your efforts, the list of Congresspersons is below along with a letter generator that can help you compose and edit a letter to your Representatives.

We encourage you to take an active role in reaching out to your Congressperson.  As always, we are here for our customers and communities.  Feel free to reach out to us anytime.

I'd like to write a letter!
